Compound thoughts

Here's Hansen, my shark character. He's a grey reef mershark, but once was just a normal human. Here's a quick background.
Hansen Williams was born into a good family in Darwin, Australia, (note: my oc's will come from all over the world, and EVENTUALLY meet) he had a comfortable life. His passion for swimming and the willingness to help others in need led him to aspire to become a lifeguard, but he had one secret. He was afraid of sharks. He did eventually muster the courage to train as a lifeguard, but on the final test the venue was suddenly changed without his acknowledgement. Finding no one at the beach, he decided to take a swim while waiting. Little did he know that he would not touch land again.
A day earlier there had been a chemical spill from the nearby marine research laboratory which caused the beach to be closed. The mutagen mixed with the genetic material of the sharks swimming in the area. In a cruel twist of fate, he began to turn into what he had feared most. The transformation took a week, and he had to survive by collecting coconuts on the beach due to his ever increasing lack of mobility on land. When the change was complete, he had no choice but to go into the water. The only physical traces of his humanity were his hair, goatee, arms, torso and eyes. Nobody saw him due to the beach's isolation.
It has since been one and a half years. The event has now made him lose his confidence and become depressed. He continuously ponders whether to reveal himself and risk his life, or to just disappear forever. Interestingly, there have been reports of a shark or dolphin-like creature of the coasts of beaches all over the world which had been saving lives. Maybe there is still hope for him.
